The Local Tour Guide program is an informal and interactive program loaded with destination knowledge, research skills, public speaking techniques. It is designed to guide participants through skills-based training based on national occupational standards, so they may be better informed to decide whether to pursue this career.

By the end of the course the participant will be able to

• describe the background and roles of tour guiding
• explain the elements of effective tour guiding
• source information
• research a specific topic
• develop a local tour guide’s personal file
• create and deliver a tour commentary
• perform administrative tasks or a local tour

Successful course completion consists of

• creating a personal file
• delivering a tour commentary
• review test

Upon successful course completion, the participant will

• receive a certificate of completion
